Wakaranai ends up translating as "I don't know*" to me, not sure why (then again, it's a little similar to "I don't understand," soooo... >.<) And that kanji had translations for "to write" and "to speak," though the dictionary I was using was a little odd haha but now that I look at it in my mini-dictionary, it does say "to write" for that kanji

* I was too lazy to fix above, so I'm adding it here. Anyway, "wakaru" means "to understand" (as you said), but my dictionary has a side-note that it's used like "to know," sooo... that likely explains my translation ^^0
