| Allright, here is the case:
I have a face down Royal Decree. My opponent plays a trap. (Bottomles Trap Hole) I chain it with Royal Decree. (I've had it on the field a while)
My opponent says I can't, since Royal Decree says; 'when this card is face up on the field'
I started to doubt, and checked it up. But well, I didn't even find it on Netrep.
So I did it as he said. (I won the duel even though)
So well, my question is: Does the chaining of Royal Decree to another trap negate the effect of that trap?

| I would say it doesn't chain, because the card doesn't say that the card negates when an opponent activates a trap, it says while it's face up. It's the same when you activate a solemn judgment, you can negate the activation of a royal decree.
Royal Decree: While this card is face-up on the field, negate the effects of all Trap Cards on the field except this card.
Solemn Judgment: Pay half your Life Points. Negate the activation of a Spell / Trap Card / Normal Summon / Flip Summon / Special Summon and destroy the Spell Card, Trap Card, or Summoned monster.
I'm not 100% on this, I usually activate decree before my opponent has a chance to activate anything, like bottomless, or a mirror force, just to avoid the confusion, only thing I know negates trap cards are seven tools of the bandit and solemn judgment.

| I like this section. DanceJonDance, you're wrong.
Okay, things get placed on a chain.
So, he activates it like this:
1- Bottomless Trap Hole 2- Royal Decree
So, we go backward. What happens first.
1- Royal Decree 2- Bottomless Trap Hole
So, Bottomless Trap Hole gets negated normally. But let's say there was a Dust Tornado activated after Royal Decree and the target was Royal Decree.
So the chain would be...
1- Bottomless Trap Hole 2- Royal Decree 3- Dust Tornado
Backward
1- Dust Tornado 2- Royal Decree 3- Bottomless Trap Hole
So, Dust Tornado will destroy Royal Decree. It's about the chain. So, if you Dust Tornado was activated to Royal Decree after the chain is done, it will be negated.
Now, going to DanceJonDance.
Royal Decree can't be activate after Solemn Judgment. Reasons:
Solemn Judgment is a counter trap. Counter traps are Spell Speed 3. Royal Decree is a continuous trap. Continuous traps are Spell Speed 2. So Royal Decree can't be activated in chain to Solemn.
But that doesn't change the normal thing again, if Royal Decree was already activated, now Solemn'd be useless.
That's it. Closed. | |
