Card Guard

With Card Guard absent from KCVDS are there any suitable replacements that I could add? Something to prevent cards in the magic/trap zone from being destroyed?

Can't really help you with your question but, what i can say is enjoy Card Guard while you can when KCVDS 1.20 is released because there is not one doubt in my mind that Card Guard will be juggled from being banned, limited, and semi-limited. Why?! It's technically Breaker but, stopping your face-up card being destroyed by using a counter seems kinda OP but, It will definitely make Macro-Monarch hit it's full potential(if they don't limit Raiza or Caius in the future which will happen).

I dont know, I havent seen much evidance of macro monarch being really strong (like lightsworn or blackwing strong) in real play where cuard guard does exist lol. I think Macro is a tad too slow when compared to the current meta decks to be that op. Card Guard could be limited or whatever. I guess we will have to see.
